As many of you are aware, Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue comes out this Tuesday, January 24th, and I couldn’t be more excited!
I know there are many that are tired of seeing an endless number of Kingdom Hearts titles, each with a more bizarre and convoluted game title than the last, come out before the next main entry in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3, but I personally don’t mind and here’s why.
First of all, Square Enix has done everything in its power to tide us over until the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally released. And these non-main entry Kingdom Hearts games have been stuffed to the breaking point with content. Content that fills most, if not all of the plot holes, left if one just goes by the main entries in the series: Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2.
Each of these non-main entry Kingdom Hearts games also explore unique and engaging sorts of gameplay that aren’t present in Kingdom Hearts or Kingdom Hearts 2, from the card-based combat of Re: Chain of Memories to the command deck and dlink systems established in Birth By Sleep.
Finally, with how vast the Kingdom Hearts game series is, with the original titles of the games spanning across a total of 5 different gaming platforms, including the PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, PSP, 3DS and even your phone, it was necessary for Tetsuya Nomura, the director behind Kingdom Hearts and other Square Enix titles, to consolidate his games to make them more accessible to fans of the series. And with the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 on the PS4 this March, every single Kingdom Hearts game will now be on one console.
These efforts made by Square Enix over the past several years I feel should be praised and not complained about, as the gaming company giant, has actually listened to and responded accordingly to its fans.
While I can agree that the game titles for the series have really gotten out of hand, I couldn’t be happier to be picking up my pre-order of Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue this Tuesday. I’d rather Kingdom Hearts 3 come out next year and be everything I could’ve hoped for, than for it to be crammed into releasing in 2017.
I can wait. I’ve been waiting for over 10 years now. What’s another year right? And I’m positive that it will definitely be worth the wait.
